Ho(rror)tels: Grange Fitzrovia Hotel, London

The first review in our Ho(rror)tels series will be about my most recent stay in London. I stayed at the Grange Fitzrovia London in a single room for two nights. I payed 381.92 £, which is about 430 €, not including breakfast, which is mid prized for London according to the hotel booking portal of our university.

The room was rather large and had a nice bathroom. Both rooms were in a decent condition, despite having seen quite some days apparently, and well cleaned. The mattress was not really soft but also not really hard, something in between. The only drawback of the room was the missing air conditioner, what turned out to be a real issue, because the weather in London was quite warm during my stay. Since I literally cannot sleep when it’s too warm, I had to keep the windows open all night, which introduced another problem: volume! The windows were out to the street and those were quite busy until late in the evening, which is not surprising in London, but made sleeping a little rough.

The room had a TV, which was not mounted to the wall or something and, therefore, could be integrated into a temporary office setup (see picture below). By the way: That’s why I always carry an HDMI cable and a lot more technical stuff with me during travels. I will give a little more insight into my personal „must haves“ for travelling in another post in the next days.

The absolute highlight of the hotel was the internet connection (see picture below). I have never seen a similar speed at any other hotel and it enabled me to watch even FHD video streams in order to fight back boredom in the evenings 😉

Since the rate for the room did not include breakfast and I did not bother to book it separately, since I’m not the breakfast guy in general, I can not say something about the breakfast, but from what I experienced otherwise I would expect it to be good.

Overall: ★★★★☆ (4 / 5)
